It was a day of missed opportunities. First in the Pound.....saw a fibwit on the 1 hour chart 2 minutes into the new candle but it had triggered already so I left it alone. Of course it went 250 bucks per contract easily. Next a 15 min fibwit in the swissy....missed totally. No problem tho cause I traded the 1 hour fibwit instead on the swiss franc. I was brought into the trade and did not use bracket orders on purpose cause with the new account size I want to scale out of positions. I entered a limit to get out and that was ok...my order was sitting there but when I entered the stop loss order I was taken out immediately at a break even trade. Hmmmm forgot to do something right. Of course the trade moved 25 ticks in my direction before reversing. I will get it right but will be dealing with some growing pains till I get comfortable.

I have not written in the blog for a week cause (as my wife likes to say) I have been in a real pissy mood. Last friday I owned MI and then on a daily keybar I bought JRCC when it triggered. I kid you not....5 minutes after I bought JRCC the news came out about Goldman sending both stocks into a spiral downwards that didn't seem to ever want to end. Between the 2 stocks after fridays close I was down 1300 bucks. Hoping for a plane flying over the white house event, I held them both into this week and on tuesday I got rid of MI and actually made 120 bucks. Today I sold JRCC and made 265. What looked real shitty in the beginning turned out ok but the stress level was high and I did not initiate any new trades because I wanted to protect capital as much as possible.

Turns out I would have made out very well on my picks this week. AXL, CENX, BID, OLN, PPDI, AGP did well and some of the weekly picks from 2 weeks ago have done really well....SNDK up 8 bucks a share just to name the best one. I am very thankful that I got out of the mess and look forward to trading some weekly fibwits starting monday. As for the rest of the day......why I think I hear a beer calling my name!!!

Did a trade in WHR yesterday. Everything was going well until a scary pullback got me spooked. I ended up selling for a 65 dollar profit and later price went to my 220 dollar target. I guess I should have set a limit order to get out and walked away from my computer. MI lost ground yesterday too and if I can get a push outa the deal I think I may call it a night for that one. I guess the big news of yesterday morning was the gap up in TLAB. Soon after the open I sold her making 410 bucks. Also KEY ( yesterdays gap down) came back from a loss of one point of 450 bucks to selling it for 70 dollars in profit. It was nice to get outa that thing. MI did trade higher on the day and I am still holding it. Here is the list from the new scan but I will not trade until after all the reports are done at 8 a.m. my time.

It was not a nice day for trading yesterday as KEY was downgraded by UBS and we had a gap down in that one and it traded lower all day. MI was marginally lower and TLAB managed to hold above 8 bucks on the day. Some very high impact reports out this morning and most of them were positive so a higher open is expected here. Hopefully a better day than yesterday. I found 3 I like from the daily scan:

Bought 2 stocks yesterday.....MI and TLAB and both closed just a touch below my entry. KEY from the other day had a wishy-washy day and closed down 1 cent. Today it won't have a similar day cause in the premarket its trading down 30 cents. Lucky me. The daily trend is up and strong so if I gotta hold for a while I will. Finally sold LUV after a week of chop. It popped up in the first candle and I sold her one cent from the high of the day. SOLF had a very weak open but rallied pretty much all day yesterday so maybe I will take profit on that one before the weekend....see how she opens. I found 5 from the scan and it looks like RIG is gonna gap me. Maybe I will do the same thing in RIG that I did in SOLF...jump in with less shares.

I shorted the Dow Futures at the open selling the 3 point. Brought me in by 2 ticks....went up and stopped me out by 3 ticks before moving to my target later in the session. If that setup were in the Euro or Gold I would have banked profits but the indexes don't seem to have any followthrough anymore. If its not a currency or commodity I don't think I will trade it from now on. Anyhow lost 155 bucks so not a real big deal. I also bought POT at the end of the day and held it overnight. Guess we will find out how smart that was when we open this morning. Here are 4 from the scan:

I was in the dow futures at the open which is not really when I like to be trading them but a signal is a signal (which was a keybar up on the 1 hour chart off of the 24 m/a) The market screamed higher and I quickly rolled to b/e +1. Then the market promptly turned around in the next 5 mins and stopped me out. At least I tried. On the stock trading front we had a nice day. I sold ELN and was in and out of SPF turning a 430 dollar profit in the process on both. The scan did not yield much unless you want massive sized stops. I did write one of em down and will trade substantially less shares because of the size of the candle. Maybe its a day to trade POT instead.

Got a fill in JBLU after it triggered and pulled back. It closed up 4 cents from where I bought it. Thats the good news. The bad news is SLE dropped 12 cents on the day. We have FOMC report out at 12:15 my time which will rattle the market. Decisions about interest rates always do and I dont like trading into fomc report days. A little pop in the morning and I will bail on my positions...(if SLE can make it that far) and sit on the sidelines until after that report is out. For you crazy bastards that like a little excitement and want a scalp here are a couple from the scan:

I sold both ACE and MET today. After the strong open neither one was moving so I bailed on ACE with a push and made 40 bucks on MET. Geez this is getting harder and harder all the time. Its just like things are coiling up for a big move, the only problem is that I don't know which way that move will be. The dow went in the red just now for the first time today and if we close around here we will have a keybar down on a daily chart. Maybe get a pullback tomorrow and glad to be out of positions that were not going up anyhow. Reset and go again tomorrow.

Still holding onto ACE and MET. ACE ran right into the 50.50 resistance area yesterday and held there. A break above there this morning and I am golden. A failure there and I bail with what I can get. The leash is getting tight on that one. MET fell back a little from my entry price but nothing to get too worried about, after all it is a weekly fibwit and more patience is needed for this one. Both AMR and LVS gapped my entry and ran all day long never looking back. The dow futures are up 50 in the premarket with no real reports out today so hopefully a little pop here and I can book some profits. I found 3 in the scan that I liked:

Just about everything on the scan yesterday broke through the low of the keybar which makes the trade null and void. ACE however held its low so I put an order in and by the end of the day I was filled. It would be nice to get a pop this morning and take some profits but advance GDP is out this morning which will really move the market. A good report and we are taking some profits. Probably my number one rule in trading that I have is to never turn a winning trade into a loser. I demand alot of my trades and the market and if a trade is not doing what I want it to or expect then I cut it loose. Yesterday after I sold M (because it was chopping sideways for 2 hours) it ground its way higher for the rest of the day making me look like an idiot. Well I have looked like an idiot on many occasions so this is no real surprise but who really knew what the stock was gonna do after I sold it?? No one thats who. I could be sitting on a 250 dollar losing position right now too. Capital preservation is the name of the game here and if the big one gets away once in a while because of it then so be it. Call me an idiot but I will be a wealthy one in time. Here are a few from the new scan:

Well back in the win column as I bailed on M after it fought with 18.95 for a couple of hours. It has promptly broke through there now and is trading right around 19 bucks but I don't care, I will take the 80 bucks and move on to something that hopefully moves better. You can't go broke taking a profit.

CDR dropped at the close like everything else and now our position is down 100 bucks. Stop loss is in at 6.47. The scan had over 600 sells signals and the buy signals were all inverse ETF's. When it gets to the extremes like this it is usually time for a reversal....lets hope that it happens. I picked 2 inverse ETF's from the scan just in case:

LPX triggered and went in the first 2 mins of trading so we missed that one but managed to get filled in the slower moving CDR at 6.66. LPX has been all over the place anyways and is currently below our entry price so maybe its good that we got the slow mover. My target is probably gonna be the 10 m/a on a daily chart or when it fills the gap and around 6.90-93 ish area. Lets see what happens.

Out of the gate yesterday DUG gapped us and easily cruised to a 500 dollar profit with oil dropping over 4 bucks a barrel. Your happy that the scan gets it right but once in a while I would like to catch one of those moves. We must have discipline tho and stick to our risk perameters. Even with the dow being down 268 points on the day we did 1 trade in POT and scalped 50 bucks outa them. There were 5 buys in the scan and I liked one of them but it has volume issues so be careful:

Both stocks on the list never triggered yesterday and POT jumped 4 bucks at the open then just chopped sideways for the rest of the day so nothing was done. Remember the 4 stocks that triggered and 3 went higher on tuesday? Well look a the one stock that didnt go higher that day.....AJG....it went up over a buck yesterday...WOW! If you did hang onto that one it would have been a nice payday. I found 4 I liked in the scan but the first 2 have volume issues and the last one is high risk so a limited number of shares should be purchased.

Got filled in BVF at 14.68 about 25 minutes into the session and when the highs were retested but not taken out I bailed at 14.85 for 170.00 in profit. Now we will see if POT sets up again. There were 2 trades in POT while I was in this one that would have worked out nicely but my focus was on BVF at the time. See if we get another signal.

With the dow being down 150 points most of the day nothing triggered in our list. Interesting to note that EK from 2 days ago launched over a dollar higher on a massive earnings report. If I would have known the earnings report was coming out I never would have traded it anyways (except intraday) so I don't feel too badly about the 2k that I missed. The scan yielded 474 sell signals and only 17 buys....and of those buys signals 15 of them are inverse ETF's. Sound a bit negative??? I would say so. Here are a couple from the scan:

Well the dows 200+ drop today stopped us out of DUK with a 400 buck hit. The first one of the year and hopefully the last one for a while. It happens and I will make that back....just a bump in the road. AAI gapped our entry and TRID did not trigger so I am flat. Maybe thats a good thing with how volatile the market has been lately. Got Nathan out of TLAB today right at the high so at least something positive on the day.

I can't believe I missed LLY. I gave Leann and Ayden a ride to school cause I needed the vehicle and in that 5 minutes LLY triggered and never looked back. I wasn't too worried at the time....the dow futures were down 40 points at the open and I had oodles of time to come home and place my order. Yeah right! It was an easy 500 bucks and went almost 1000 dollars before it finally pulled back. I think a good swift kick in the nuts feels better than this. At least Nathan was smart enough to place an order and he made off with some cash. Its about an hour before the close and I just got filled in DUK. Gonna hold this one overnight and hope that we get a nice move in the morning.

With holiday monday out of the way we can get back to trading in the morning. I find it interesting that in the weekly scan were alot of big dow component stocks like IBM, KO, MCD, WMT, and PG, giving buy signals or fibwits. Maybe with earnings season upon us now the big boys know something we dont and are loading up on some of these monsters. Finding a fibwit in the scan that wasnt trading into a peak or close to highs was hard to do but I managed to find a couple I liked:

I think this damn flu bug is finally out of my system and I can get back to trading. I slept pretty much all day yesterday so no trading done but would have done well buying WMS from my short list. The scan yielded pretty much an even spread between buys and sells and the dow futures are currently down 40 so a weaker open is sure to happen. Lots of reports out this morning however to move the market so we will see what happens. Here is my new list:

XRX fought with the double top from yesterday at8.91. After a 15 min fight I gave up and sold at 8.90. Its probably gonna go now but I will take the 80 bucks and see if it does. No fills in anything else to date.

XRX missed our profit taking order by 5 cents a couple of times during the day and we ended the day up 3 cents. Hopefully we get outa that one today.

We had 72 buy signals and only 10 sells in the scan so hopefully that means a positive day ahead. I found 4 stocks in the scan that I thought were ok but most of them give us a signal right at the high or right near a peak. Here are the 4 from most favorite to least favorite

I added XRX this morning from Nathan's list and it seems to be the only one with some strength this morning. The dow has been in the red all morning long but XRX has been climbing. It triggered at 8.85 a few minutes ago so I put in orders to buy on an 8.82 limit order. See if we get filled.

What a goofy morning. Got gapped in just about everything at the open and then things pulled back hard. DST made an early high of 45.25 and then fell to 45. I then threw in a 45.22 limit to get out and after a couple of tries it made it there. I will take the 70 bucks and sit on the sidelines with this much volatility thankyou very much. The only thing that I may be remotely interested in is CNO but it is fighting with its 40 m/a on a 15 min chart at present. If it doesn't hold then I will be done for the day. If I get filled I will report back.

Well, I went through the scans last night and found a few. The weekly scans seem to foreshadow what is gonna happen for the week. There were alot of gold and oil stocks in the weekly scan and this morning.... voila....gold up 19 bucks and oil up close to a dollar. The weekly scan seems to tell us where the big boys are positioning themselves for the upcoming week. Anyhow my short list includes AUY, ABX, and AA.....all of which are gonna gap us this morning so those are out. Here is the rest of my list for the day with entries just above and stops just below the range:

Closed my first position of the year in TOL. Bought on tuesday and got a nice gap up this morning and bailed with around 600 bucks. Got gapped in CHS however and it moved about 600 bucks too. I guess one is better than none.

The Aussie

I found a fibwit on the daily aussie chart but it had triggered already by the time I got up. I entered on the break of a 3 pt and suffered 270 bucks worth of drawdown before I got outa there for 1 tick in profit. A tick is better than a loss but geez cant I get into a trade and it just go to my target? I guess that wouldnt be any fun if it happened all the time but just once would be nice. No new buys in the stock market but PMI came up a bit. We have fibwits in the British Pound and Soybean Oil for tomorrow.

Mr. Yen Again

I didn't post yesterday cause nothing good happened. Dow down 210 points and PMI took it on the chin. Came back today tho and had a keybar up which if triggers could get us closer to getting out. I got into a yen trade late last night and stayed up till 3 am to manage it. I eeked out a 2 tick winner that came from a 450 buck drawdown. Not the trade of the year by far but at least it didn't hurt me. I have been trading keybars and fibwits off of the daily charts and although you have massive stops I roll to b/e as quickly as I can and follow the market accordingly. For some reason this seems to have calmed me down a little and I don't get that nervous feeling in my gut like I do when I scalp. I will try to trade more setups on the daily chart next week and see how things work out.

I found a keybar up on the daily chart of the yen last night and placed my order right before I went to bed. I got up at 2 a.m. to check and sure enough I was filled. Only problem was that I was down 300 bucks. Well the more I sat there the more it went up and once I got into profit I just kept rolling the stop up as we went. I walked away with 250 bucks. I would get up every night at 2 a.m. if I knew I would make that amount....lol. As far as PMI goes well it was another down day. I am not liking this one so much anymore but the trend is up and a retest of the highs is necessary....I hope!

Stapler throwing day

You know what really pisses me off about getting into a trade? Buying the high thats what. You buy a stock and it goes no higher on the day crushing your spirits for a quick profitable outcome. Today we had 2 stocks on the radar. The first one BLC gapped us and never looked back. The one we bought the high on today was PMI. Didnt get filled right off the hop but after we did Consumer Confidence report came out and crushed any hopes of a positive day. I have "confidence" that we will retest the highs in PMI being that it is in a solid uptrend but its just gonna take a little longer to do it is all. I like the get in, get out, get done in a couple of hours type of trade but this wont be it. Tomorrow or thursday should bring us a positive outcome.

Houston, we have a problem

I got up this morning to find that my Sierra Charts were not working....some problem with Transact...so the futures were out. I then went to check on some stocks for fibwits or keybars but found that stockcharts was not working either. Great, glad I got up at 4 a.m. for this. We did place an order for IVN....a keybar up on the daily chart but even with the dow being up 130 we were not filled. Days like today I wish I woulda stayed in bed.

Shut-Out

I tried but no trades today. I had orders in the Canadian Dollar and Soybeans but never got filled in them. Dow ended down 40 again and I had a couple of long and a couple of shorts to play but prices did not hit their trigger points to initiate anything. It was a very slow week and hopefully next week will be better.

Peaks and Valleys

Earlier this morning Rob did a trade in the Euro. It was just and I mean just above a peak on the 5 min chart. I held off because that peak made me nervous thinking that the Euro would have been held down by it. Well a long story short...Rob made out very well on the trade. Later in the morning I traded the 5 year note. Prices came up and tested a peak and that bar turned into a keybar down but the 1 hour chart was a little keybar up. I went in 1 tick above the keybar down and thats all it moved because that stupid peak held it down. I ended up losing 10 ticks on the deal so not bad at all but I broke one of my rules and paid for it. Never, Never, NEVER trade into a peak or valley on the 5 min chart no matter how good it looks, period.

The stock market had another down day after the Existing Home Sales came in under expectations so I did nothing there. We will be up and running with AIQ by next week I would guess, or so I have been told. It will be nice not to sift through chart after chart looking for fibwits and keybars anymore as the program will do that for us.

Are the Bears coming back to town?

The volatility after the FOMC minutes were released was high as expected. Right after the report the dow rocketed up and was sitting at +80 but by the end of the day the bears took control and we were down 80 at the close. We came within 2 cents of getting filled in SCS before it went the other way and tanked so sometimes not being in a trade is a good thing. Now the question is "is this just a pullback and the bulls are gonna jump right back on the train or are we in store for a longer term correction?" Nobody knows but time will tell....stay tuned.

Well a little pop this morning and we are out of EL with $170 bucks for our trouble. Everything is just chopping around right now probably until the FOMC announcement at 12:15 my time. After that things could get volatile but I dont think the Fed will do anything with rates this time around. We will see if the fibwit in SCS triggers after the minutes are released.

Last night Nathan and I identified 7 different stocks that had keybars and we were ready to pounce given the chance. Overnight the US dollar got pounded and as a result the dow futures were up 50 points when the opening bell rang. We got gapped in most of them of course....I missed getting filled in VPHM by 1 stinking cent but Nathan got a part fill. I quickly sold that one for a small profit and then we did a tiger trade in EL. It looks like we will be in a small profit at the close and we are gonna hold this one overnight. A little pop in the morning and we will close out this position. Nothing done in the futures or forex today as Nathan was at work and I was all over the place trying to get into positions without much luck. Tomorrow is another day.

Kinda Slow

Well I only did one trade in the futures today....in the 5 year note and took 4 ticks for my trouble. The dow was down most of the day and ended up off 40 points or so which is the first down day in about 2 weeks. Maybe a sign of things to come here. Just having a quick look at a couple of charts I have found a couple of signals in TCK.B.to and BEXP and will initiate a trade if they trigger tomorrow. Our AIQ scanner is still under work and it may be the end of the week or early next before we can generate any signals from it. Time will tell but I think it will be very, very good.

Profitable Day

Well what a nice day it was. I got out of my (POT) about 10 minutes into the session with a $5.20/share profit. I also did 2 trades in the forex market GBP/USD and EUR/USD and made 30 pips on each trade. So in testing this new system I am 2 for 3. I had a buy signal in (POT) a couple of hours later but passed on the trade because oil was down 3 bucks at the time. Would have turned out nicely. I started watching (KO) today for possible future trades in it.

The Rate Cut

Well it looked good for a while but the 400 point drop in the last 10 minutes of trading did not sit very well with me or anyone else I am guessing. (POT) rose about 10 bucks on the day anyways and the 1/2 point rate cut sent the US dollar down driving commodity prices upwards including Potash Corp. A pop early in tomorrows session that doesn't look to go anywhere will get me out of this position. No signals in the forex today and I didn't trade the futures because of the FOMC rate decision.

Buy the Rumor...sell the fact.

The dow rallied 889 points today...the second largest rally in history on the rumor that the Fed will drop interest rates tomorrow by 1/2 a point. We will probably see a rally early on and when the news hits at 2:15 est. the market will fall shortly afterwards. Just my guess. My position in (POT) advanced 6 bucks today making my loss smaller but we still have a ways to go on that front. I am trying a new trading methodology in the forex market and did one trade in the EUR/USD losing 50 pips. I just happened to get caught up in the rally at the end of the day. Will have to give a couple months of testing before I give my opinion good or bad.

Slow Day

Not much to tell today. POT dropped and we may have to hold onto this one for a while but thats ok. The forex market has such huge bid/ask prices that I didn't even think about trading it today. I am looking at buying some energy income trusts if the price gets down to where I want them to. With a yield of over 20% its hard not to load up on some of the best oil trusts around. Enerplus Resources and Penn West are the two that I am looking at buying but I may have to be patient about it. The dow was up 200 points for a while today and ended up down 200 while the tsx was down 700 to close under 9000 for the first time in 4 years. Ho Hum, just another day in the markets.

More Pressure

The markets are starting to feel the pressure and a retest on the dow should soon come. If we can hold 7880 and get a bounce we should be ok for a while. If we break 7880 however a mass of selling will come into the market and who knows where we will end up. Potash Corp had stellar earnings, crude oil is up, and currently the dow is up but for whatever reason no-one is interested just yet to buy (POT) Yesterday I did 2 trades in the forex...USD/JPY and USD/CHF netting about 20 pips. I also tried the e-mini dow and got my ass handed to me in about 30 seconds. Well, it wasn't that bad but I will wait for the VIX to drop below 30 before doing anything again.

When POT opened down $4 at the open all my hopes of liquidating my position were dashed. Looks like now I will have to hold until earnings come out which is not what I wanted to do. It looks like more pressure today as well as crude is down over 2 bucks again this morning. I did a trade in the USD/CAD pair on the break of the KB down 3 point. I set the trade the night before and when I came down in the morning I liquidated with 50 pips. NICE. I watched the mini-dow trade but its still too volatile and the risk amounts are way too high yet.

The Dow Rallies

Today was a good day for the bulls with the Dow rallying 400 points by days end and oil was up 3 buck today as well. My position in (POT) also rallied and was up about $7 buck per share today. I need the market to move another 4.10 to hit my limit order and take me out. I may take what I can get early and step aside until earnings are released on Thursday. Nothing was done in the forex market today and with the VIX dropping from the 70's into the 50's maybe I will get to trade the mini-dow by the end of the week. Time will tell.

For some reason blogger thought that this was a spam site. I was shut down for a few days until they reviewed me. So much has happened to the markets since the last time I updated that it would probably take me days to say what all has happened. We will start updating on a regular basis starting next week. I guess the only trade that I did was sell my (POT) Potash Corp. on monday for a $5.20/share profit. I then re-entered on wednesday for about 20 bucks a share cheaper than the first time I bought. I still continue to hold it and hopefully with earning coming out on thursday we will get a little pop up and be out with a profit as well.

The market has been very undecided this morning opening the day up about 150 points on the news that the Aussie's dropped their interest rates last night a full point. Since then it has dropped off and has been very wishy washy. I tried to do a trade in the USD/JPY early on a break and hold of the 120 m/a but was not filled. A good thing too because it has just chopped around ever since. The e-mini dow futures are still much too volatile to trade for me as my risk limits are violated. I will have to wait for calmer weather to get in there. I am still holding my position in (POT) and would dearly love to get rid of it on a test of 100 bucks. We will see what the rest of the day brings.

Market Meltdown

I thought I would start a blog today due to the fact that I cannot trade in this environment. At the very least it will give me something to do. It looks to me like we are on the verge of a disasterous week in the financial markets unless the Fed steps up and surprises us with an interest rate cut. Time will tell but until then I will be sitting here on my hands.
